Kakuro puzzles are similar to crosswords, in which numbers are used instead of letters. The name Kakuro is an abbreviation of the Japanese kasan kurosu (cross addition); the puzzle is also known as Cross Sums (intersecting sums).
The puzzle grid consists of black and white cells. White cells running vertically or horizontally in a row form a block. The goal of the game is to fill all the white cells with numbers from 1 to 9 so that the sum of the digits in the block is equal to the number indicated in the black cell to the left of the horizontal block and on top of the vertical one. At the same time, the numbers within one block should not be repeated.
Kakuro can be of any size and any shape, although usually the grid cells are arranged symmetrically. As a rule, the more empty cells in the game, the more difficult it is, but this is not always the case, especially if it is a good and high-quality puzzle.
